Image proportions and color changes.

Besides cropping, which selectively removes parts of the animation from the edges toward the center of the gif, the gif can also be manipulated to distort or change the artwork - into something completely new. These gifs are made from the same master. The size of the file may be changed by your HEIGHT= & WIDTH= statements in your HTML file but, this may cause needless problems for some systems.

Framed from original.

Colored, sized, reversed.

Transparent Gif

The second image had the background changed to a solid dark color, which may be made transparent. The relative size of the image is changed, The orientation where the page turns in the other direction.

The third image is called a transparent gif. The black background has been made transparent and removed by the page background. The background color or the background image of the page will replace the black background of the gif. Blue is the usual color to make transparent.

Color change is a time consuming process. The file is worked at the individual frame level, individual pictures. Colors are applied by working each individual frame. Each frame is worked where, in this example, the background is painted black. I zoomed in or, expanded the files 600% and painted out the background with black. Finding the edge of the work is difficult. The file is then recompiled back into the animated gif. If the original was hand mastered or drawn, then color change may be easy to do, just changing the selected color in the color pallet from this to that. With video capture however, this is not easily done because of the many hues and shades contained within the file. This transparent gif was worked by converting each individual frame to just 16 colors. This removed the mid or transition colors at the edges of the book making for cleaner edge definition. The file could also have been worked at the pixel level but, the process is very time consuming. If the second picture is set to have the black background transparent, artifacts at the edge of the book would detract from the quality of the image more than the sparkle like effect reflected in the third GIF which still has a few artifacts.
