Animated Gif from Video

RUSH

Whoa . . . Completely covered. Cool huh.

This link will take you to files you can use on your site.

Relative Issues:

The clip you want to convert should be effective at various speeds. The clip should be effective at whatever speed the various viewer systems are capable of. This means that not all video clips can be translated to the format effectively. Not everyone will get the same effect on their viewer. This is not an issue with a format like MPEG, AVI, or Quicktime where real (reel) time can be close to actual. All frames are played with animated gif art where frames are dropped for other formats to fit the hardware capability. The turtle may fly across the screen on a modern system and the hare may crawl on a legacy computer. Image speed is then the significant issue of the animated gif format. Though time change settings can be applied for time control from within the gif work, not all browsers support this feature. The factor then that most affects the speed of the animation is one of the system on which the gif is being viewed. An older CPU or, not enough memory will make the art rotate slower than a speedy system with lots of RAM. However, the size in bytes of the animated gif can be a lot less than the other formats making for a faster download (selected frames deleted.) Say, 300,000 bytes vs. 3,000,000 bytes. The good support most internet systems give the format is a big plus and, you don't need another plug-in. The current, major browsers support the file type.

What a RUSH

  • The file size is a factor of the size of the frames by the number of frames in the animated.gif file by the color pallet of the file. The smaller the size of the frame, fewer images and colors of the individual frames in the file, makes for a faster download. The animated gif file is larger in size than the total of each individual picture in the file, in bytes. It is larger than if you displayed each individual picture singly on your web page.

  • Your img tag should always include size tags. If you insert size tags in your HTML document, the text should initially display before the graphic files load.
  • Color depth of the format leaves much to be desired where the small color pallet can be a problem. But then, this forces a smaller file size than some other true color graphic. This link has some good information on different ways of reducing the size of gif files including color reduction of the animated gif file:

  • Standard Video, 8mm and VHS, is designed for something like 200 lines per screen, interlaced for 400 lines. HI8 and Super VHS do something like 400 lines, like non-interlaced.

  • Unlike some other formats, sound cannot be integrated into the format. But, these graphics are primarily visual so, sound is not important for the specific use.
